ok since i am so free i shall be so very honoured to post the FIRST POST OF 2009! whee! clap for me!
hahaha i've been meaning to post some of these stuff up here for quite some time already but just never got around to it.
so i'll do it in a coolcher way HAHA.

WHY 07A14 IS THE BEST VJ CLASS EVER ALIVE

#1. we bring geography everywhere we go!

LONDON - congestion charges to mitigate traffic congestion

LONDON - westminster - daylight saving sundial! different time zones and weathers(:

LLANGOLLEN, wales - if you can't see, the advertisement says 'retirement houses from about 150,000 pounds( which is equivalent to less than 500, 000 sing!). and it's a huge beautiful english country house with a garden we're talking about not just a hdb flat! i think! this illustrates a few things - standard of living and prices of housing between a land scarce country and one with much to spare!

LIVERPOOL - waste disposal. hahaha. i think their dustbin designs are quite nice! hehe

LLANGOLLEN - an old train station now used as a tourist attraction. image renewal?

(i still think our MRT is better though. cleaner and less scary. and MUCH MUCH CHEAPER)

and who can forget our dear Ford who invented mass production? (:

ok this is not exactly geograhpy but it is for all the harry potter fans. WE WERE THERE! :D

MY FRIEND’S DAUGHTER works in a fast food shop in Hong Kong. I watched her and her friends in action the other day.

The weird thing is that the staff can communicate perfectly well in English with anyone from Hong Kong, South Asia, East Asia, or pretty much any other part of the region.

But when a fresh-off-the-boat tourist enters the restaurant, communication gets difficult. Monolingual English speakers from America, for example, “hear” Asian-English words differently.

Fast food server: Harlowelcumkaneye L. pyoo?

Customer: What?

Customer: Er, yes, I’d like one cheeseburger please.

How come Asians can communicate with other Asians using this bare-bones English, while tourists struggle with it? Because English is really a whole group of languages. A tourist who speaks only “the Queen’s English” limits himself to communicating with speakers of that dialect. But if you speak Asian English—which I propose we call Englasian—you end up with a language the majority of people on Earth can understand.

In fact, I reckon we should train the Queen of England to speak it. I can just picture her on her next tour of Asia stepping off the Royal yacht and saying: “We are most amused to be here. My husband and I would like to say harlowelkumkanwee L. pyoo.”

hello you people! long time no see long time no hear. so i decided to give a little peek at what our trip was like. yes it was an econs trip, but we learnt a lot more things relevant to other stuff too! like how the arabs are such great hosts...

we learnt a bit about geog too! about traffic problems in the city...

and a bit about gated communities like the palm jumeirah!

but being dubai, they couldn't just stop at ONE palm. so here's the plan of how they're gonna expand their coastline even further! with two more palms PLUS the world (and in the not so distant future, the Universe)

and erm on a more random note, we saw this and thought about lit too...

so learning more about the people and the country itself, it kinda made us crazy how their lives seem so good... so what better thing to do than to do a little camwhoring!

of course, there was time for SHOPping too!!!!!!!! yes we went to juicy couture and i swear

us on the 41st floor observation bridge in the petronas twin towers. the
view from up there makes you feel like you can conquer the world!

contrast the backwardness of the inner city in sentul and the splendour of klcc and
putrajaya. its amazing how they can be so close together yes?

you also get to see normally reserved people (ahem justyne) go crazy, act deranged and
make funny faces

so we said our goodbyes to KL yesterday and its time for me to end this post
too so TTFN (tata for now) and have a good holiday everyone!

Geography Rocks 08

Non-geography related things I've learnt from the Geography trip:

1. All of us look different at 11 years old from how we look like now but some of us look more different than others.

2. Some of us don't look so good when we sleep.

3. If you park your car in Malaysia, leave and don't come back, this is what happens 10 years later.

4. Mr Najib isn't a very good photographer.

5. Some of us hide our desire for each other but ultimately, man are animals of lust.

6. Enid looks especially gormless at night.

7. McDonalds' is the preferred choice for supper, especially when it is 1am and your teachers forbid you to leave the hotel at night due to the possibility of riots breaking out any time.

8. Mr Najib is tall.

9. Mr Josef stands about 20cm further from the camera than everyone else so he looks skinnier (I didn't make it up, he say one!).

10. All of us really enjoyed the geog trip :)

Man is not made to eat meat. Cuz firstly, our teeth are not sharp like meat-eaters. We are not aroused by the smell of blood like sharks and lions are. We are not able to accept the screamings of animals when they are slaughtered. This shows that our body is not made to kill animals. Furthermore, we don’t really need meat, cuz the nutrients we get from meat can be found in plants as well, and in a healthier form too.

You may want to know that 90% of chickens suffer from bone fractures before they even reach the slaughter house. And that some chickens are being fed so much that their legs cannot support their weight, so they can be like walking halfway and then their legs just fracture and they cannot move anymore. So they just sit there and wait to die. Oh, and the de-beaking. To prevent them from pecking each other, their beaks are being removed. And if you want to feel how painful it is, try removing your fingernail. It’s about the same, if not worse.

VIENNA, Va. - A rule against physical contact at a Fairfax County middle school is so strict that students can be sent to the principal's office for hugging, holding hands or even high-fiving.
Unlike some schools in the Washington area, which ban fighting or inappropriate touching, Kilmer Middle School in Vienna bans all touching — and that has some parents lobbying for a change.

Hugging was Hal Beaulieu's crime when he sat next to his girlfriend at lunch a few months ago and put his arm around her shoulder. He was given a warning, but told that repeat missteps could lead to detention.

"I think hugging is a good thing," said Hal, a seventh-grader. "I put my arm around her. It was like for 15 seconds. I didn't think it would be a big deal."

But at a school of 1,100 students that was meant to accommodate 850, school officials think some touching can turn into a big deal. They've seen pokes lead to fights, gang signs in the form of handshakes or girls who are uncomfortable being hugged but embarrassed to say anything.

"You get into shades of gray," Kilmer Principal Deborah Hernandez said. "The kids say, 'If he can high-five, then I can do this.' "

Hernandez said the no-touching rule is meant to ensure that all students are comfortable and crowded hallways and lunchrooms stay safe. She said school officials are allowed to use their judgment in enforcing the rule. Typically, only repeat offenders are reprimanded.

'Making out goes too far'But such a strict policy doesn't seem necessary to 13-year-old Hal and his parents, who have written a letter to the county school board asking for a review of the rule. Hugging is encouraged in their home, and their son has been taught to greet someone with a handshake.

So Jack and Hibiscus live happily ever
